American River College, Los Rios Community College District

New Image For Arts On Campus

Built in 1958, American River College’s Fine Arts Building needed substantial renovations to support the college’s growing music and theater departments. This two-phase renovation/expansion transformed the building into a premier educational facility, establishing a new image for the performing arts on campus and within the community.

HGA renovated the theater in the first phase and added music, theater rehearsal, and instructional spaces in second phase. Nearly doubling the Fine Arts Building, the expansion is architecturally compatible with the existing building in height, colors, and materials. The main entrance is oriented toward the north, where most students arrive on campus from the parking area, public transit, or adjacent neighborhoods. The lobby is a shared gathering space that ties into the interior circulation spine connecting different departments.
